Thank you for a great July!
Thank you to everyone that participated in our reopening this summer!
It was wonderful to see patrons interested in returning to live performances after so long, and espeically great for performers who have had an extremely difficult two years.
The Bluewater Summer Playhouse was formed 29 years ago in response for a need , at that time, for a tourist addition in our area. Over the years support for live performance has been wonderful - both from patrons, sponsors, and volunteers - but times change - Kincardine has grown enormously in live perfornances - festivals and events and we are truly fortunate to have these opportunities right here in our hometown!
The Executive for Blue Water Summer Playhouse has been in position for many years, and it is time, hopefully, to hand over the reins to some new interested people to carry on this summer theatre. If you are interested in keeping live professional theatre alive please contact us before our year end, October 31st, 2022.

The Kincardine Centre for the Arts is one of the main hubs of artistic and creative community engagement. Bluewater Summer Playhouse has been a popular fixture in our community for over 26 years. We have brought first class entertainment to our town and attracted both tourists and locals alike to our summer season. These patrons have supported our community by eating in our restaurants, shopping in our stores and staying in our hotels.
That is all in a precarious position right now. Because of COVID 19 lockdowns and restrictions, our theatre, along with other entertainment centres, has its future in question now.
While we have enjoyed the support of our sponsors and patrons in the past, we now face an uncertain future.
First of all, over the years our Board of Directors has shrunk with a number of key people leaving to move on to other endeavours. We rely on summer student grants to hire local students, and this is not a certain source of funding. Some years we have not received any grants and have had to pay students’ salaries out of our ticket sales and membership fees. Likewise, in our sponsorship appeal, we cannot always count on the same companies coming forward to support us. Each year we struggle to come out of the “red” and try to stay financially solvent.
We are now faced with the following dilemma:
Are patrons ready to attend indoor live theatre?
Theatres around the country have been closed for two seasons and as COVID is still an issue in the country we are slowly starting to return to normal. !But does that include sitting indoors at a live performance? Current restrictions on indoor performances limit capacity in theatres - include mask initiatives - and vaccine requirements - how can theatres exist with the current limitations ?
Those that are opening are relying heavily on increased sponsorships and also selling on line performances !
After two years of actors and musicians, suffering through the pandemic and now anxious to return to the stage - Are patrons ready?
A question for the Bluewater Summer Playhouse “is this the time to plan reopening “
After missing what would have been the 27th and 28th seasons planning for 2022 has to be made soon!
Are volunteers comfortable returning? Are sponsors ready to support - is there a group of committed supporters ready to assist ?
What we need:
Committed community members who would join our Board of Directors and take on an active role in the planning and running of the theatre.
If you are interested in getting involved, please contact the Bluewater Summer Playhouse by email: boxoffice@bluewatersummerplayhouse.com.
DO YOU WANT TO SEE BLUEWATER SUMMER PLAYHOUSE CONTINUE?
WE NEED YOU TO HELP US MAKE THIS HAPPEN!
